A fast and reliable broadband internet connection is the most important thing for many Digital Nomads who are coming to Chiang Mai. Many apartments offer Wifi for free or at a low monthly fee but the connection is often spotty and reaches speeds of 1Mbps at best.
If you are dependent on top speeds and a steady connection, then you might want to check out Sinet in Chiang Mai. This Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides you with fiber for as low as THB599/month + taxes for a 15/5MB connection (THB699/m for 25/8MB, THB899/m for 35/15MB) which doesn’t include fees for setup and router of course. Sinet doesn’t require yearly contracts in some apartment buildings, instead you might be able to subscribe on a monthly basis for high speed internet which is just perfect for Digital Nomads.
To find out if you qualify for Sinet, first ask your landlady or landlord if it’s possible to set up a dedicated internet connection in your apartment. After that a good start is the coverage map for fiber at Sinet’s website.
Finally ordering your fiber connection can be done at Sinet booths in mayor malls like Maya Mall (3rd Floor), Central Festival (3rd Floor) or CentralPlaza Airport (3rd Floor). The staff will check once more if you are living in a covered area and whether you qualify for the monthly subscriptions. If so, they will make an appointment with you to set up the connection and provide you with a wifi router.
The entire process is pretty straightforward and if you want to move to another place, you just cancel the subscription and return the router. Both of which you can do at either of their booths in the shopping malls.
